City of Mount Rainier Re-Opens Local Library with Help from Pepco

On Jan. 27, Pepco’s Small Business Program (SBP) granted the city of Mount Rainier, Md., more than $21,000 in EmPOWER Maryland funds. With these funds, the city was able to re-open a more energy efficient Mount Rainier Library.

The SBP helps small businesses with under 60 kW peak demand achieve their energy efficiency goals by providing significant incentives for the installation of energy efficient products such as LED lighting, HVAC, refrigeration and controls.

Pepco representatives Gene Smar, Tony Ruffin, Edward Musz, and Will Ellis this week joined Mount Rainier Mayor Malinda Miles; state, county and city government officials; library representatives; school and local business groups to celebrate the re-opening with a check presentation. The ceremony took place inside the library and was followed by a reception at City Hall.

With the funds from EmPOWER Maryland, the city will benefit from energy-efficient lighting upgrades in several government buildings such as the Public Works Department, Code Enforcement Office, and new street lighting.

The city has participated in Pepco’s SBP nine times since 2015 and will continue to benefit long-term from these projects by reducing energy consumption and increasing savings on energy bills.
