STEM Professionals Take Note: Women Can Do It All at Atlantic City Electric

Atlantic City Electric and Exelon proudly support women and empowering gender equality. At an organization filled with talented women, it is not hard to find one rising in leadership and working to power a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities. Senior Environmental Project Manager Jennifer Ruegg is a prime example of just that.

As a busy full-time working mom of three children, including twins, Ruegg is no stranger to hard work. At Atlantic City Electric, she is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of siting, land use permitting, and environmental compliance activities associated with construction and maintenance projects.

Ruegg joined Atlantic City Electric in 2015, taking some time off after working 10 years for the New Jersey Pinelands Commission to stay at home with her twins. With degrees in Biology and Marine Biology from Boston University, the avid environmentalist carries her passion for nature not just at work but outside the office as well. Jennifer shares her love for the environment with her children, Emilia (13), Anna (10) and Ian (10), as well as her husband of 17 years, Ian Sr., all while showing women can lead both at work and at home.

“I have a great and supportive team,” says Ruegg. “It was a seamless transition for me to go from being a stay-at-home mom to beginning work here. Atlantic City Electric provides me flexibility to continue working and be a mom, even giving me the opportunity to speak at my children’s school about what I do. Our department is now half women with a strong voice at the table.”

While the energy industry has often been male dominated, Exelon has committed to narrowing that gap and providing women the resources needed to support their goals, including a commitment to equal pay, paid maternity (and paternity) leave, funding Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs for young women, and committing to the HeForShe campaign.

At Exelon and Atlantic City Electric, women are making an impact on the energy industry and their efforts to drive our organization forward shape our company and our future every day.
