5 Things You Need to Apply for Energy Assistance

If you are facing challenges paying your energy bill, assistance is available. We know the ongoing pandemic has created economic hardships for many, which can make paying your energy bill difficult. We are committed to helping you secure energy assistance, especially as winter approaches with colder temperatures and potentially higher energy bills.

Millions of dollars in state and federal energy assistance is available for residents who qualify. While each program is different, here are a few key documents you will need to apply for most programs: 

  1. Government issued photo ID
  2. Copies of social security cards for all household members
  3. Proof of income
  4. Copy of your most recent energy bill
  5. Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency status

Whether you’re experiencing a temporary or extended financial hardship, we encourage you to apply for energy assistance today. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs provides LIHEAP self-screening tool for you to determine what energy assistance benefits you may qualify for. Screening is anonymous and only takes about one to two minutes to complete.
