Pepco Honored with Corporate Citizen Award by the African American Civil War Museum

Pepco was recently honored with the Corporate Citizen Award at the 20th Anniversary Gala of the African American Civil War Museum. Since its inception, we have proudly supported the museum, which pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the United States Colored Troops (USCT) who fought during the Civil War and has aided the economic revitalization of the historic U Street community in the District of Columbia.

“Our partnerships with historic institutions like the African American Civil War Museum help us give back to the communities we serve,” said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president. “The wide range of perspectives, knowledge, and experience we continue to receive from these relationships help make our company and our employees better at meeting the needs of our customers.”

The museum provides a comprehensive background on the “Spirit of Freedom” memorial, the first national memorial to pay tribute to the 209,145 soldiers who were part of the USCT, and helps visitors explore a little-known chapter of our American history.

It is our pleasure to present Pepco with our Corporate Citizen Award,” said Dr. Frank Smith, the museum’s Founding Director. “We have had 20 good years of progress and growth as an organization, and Pepco’s involvement has been key to that development. The future looks bright, and it’s time to celebrate our path to progress as we plan for the future.”
